Post 8: ENGLISH LANGUAGE CHALLENGES

Ever since I was a child, I have loved English. It was one of my favorite subjects. But when I left school I didn't practice it for 4 years. A long time really. Then when I got to university I take the english course  in my third year but we were just in pandemic so I had to practice online. I must say I don't like it at all. I feel like you don't learn the same way as when there is real interaction. I have to admit that sometimes I forget to blog. I really regret it because I know it's a grade and it's important for my learning. But I have so many subjects that I didn't have much free time and since it was due on Saturday I forgot.

I think a good way to improve my English is to practice it in my daily environment. But no one in my house knows English. Least of all my friends. So it's a bit difficult on that side. Something that has helped me a lot is watching movies in English with subtitles or looking up translations of songs I like. It's a very entertaining way to learn.

I definitely consider English to be very important for our professional development. And I would love to practice it much more to speak fluently in the near future.

Thank you very much for joining me in this course. I enjoyed it very much. Best regards!

Post 7: changes to my study programme

I really like my career, however I think it could improve some aspects to be even better. Among them, I suggest that the courses directly related to the career such as Ethics and Environmental Legislation, Environmental Management, Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Economics, among others, be at the beginning of the career. This would be very helpful as it would give us the necessary context to understand our professional objective and how the rest of the courses relate to the career. I also suggest that they do more practical activities to link our theoretical knowledge with experience and thus improve the quality of our learning. For this I recommend incorporating more field trips, more activities in laboratories, or create instances of interaction with older students or graduates of our career or similar careers.

The pandemic context provoked an abrupt virtuality in the classes, which had both benefits and detriments. But I think we can rescue the technological tools as something positive because it allowed us to continue our classes and save travel time. In my case it saved 5 hours of travel time that I used to use just to travel from Paine to La Pintana.

I have always thought that as students we would be much more productive if we focused on one subject at a time. For example, we could spend 2 months completely focused on one subject and after passing it continue with another. Would you like it to be like that?

Art

I once heard the phrase "in every artist's mind there is a masterpiece" and I agree. Since I was a child I found art interesting but I don't think I was born with the gift of being an artist. When I had to choose between music or art in school I always chose art because I really liked the idea of transferring my thoughts to paper. I enjoyed painting and creating things but I had no talent. I remember seeing my classmates' drawings or creations and feeling a little jealous because they were so good. I would have liked to have developed that artistic ability in my childhood but I didn't. That's why I don't know much about art or art movements. But if I have to choose my favorite artistic expression I would definitely choose very colorful paintings and about nature. I think visual arts are very important in society because they are a good way to organize thoughts and convey a message to others about their own reality. The truth is that I would be lying if I said I have a favorite visual artist. I don't. But I think there are some very good ones like Salvador DalĂ, Vincent Van Gogh, Michelangelo and Rembrandt.

MY CHILDHOOD

There are so many things that remind me of my childhood but the smell of cinnamon is the one I remember the most. My mom used to make tea with cinnamon and my dad would take us to Santiago to buy cinnamon ice cream, imagine traveling more than 60 kilometers from Paine to Santiago just to enjoy its flavor!

I think one of my earliest memories is when I was 3 years old and I always walked around with a hairdo that looked like a palm tree. It was very funny looking. I also used to tell people "le yuyo" to offer them my help hahahah. Thanks to that now my brothers call me "yuyo". We are 6 siblings, so mess and fun were never lacking in my house.

I remember getting up at 6 a.m. to watch Looney Tunes on TV, I loved it! I would also watch SpongeBob SquarePants, The Simpsons. But then I started liking the Animal Planet channel.

I definitely wish I could go back to being a kid, it was such a fun time.

The best holidays I've had

I used to travel a lot when I was a child with my family. We traveled through many beautiful landscapes of our country from Iquique to the island of Chiloe.  But definitely my favorite vacation has been in Los Vilos. We would go every summer and stay for about 2 months until March when we had to start classes with my siblings.  The house was very small. It had only 2 bedrooms and we were 8 people so some of my brothers would camp out in the yard. It was a lot of fun because we would get up in the morning, have breakfast and go down to the beach which was a few meters from our house. Then in the afternoons we would go for a walk, ride our bikes or go for a drive. In those years it was possible to see many fish, sea lions and other marine life on the coastal reefs.  I loved swimming and spending hours in the sunlight watching the sea. It has been my best memory because I loved to see my whole family laughing and sharing.

A COUNTRY I WOULD LIKE TO VISIT.

Do you like pizza as much as I do? Then you should definitely visit Italy.

Hello everybody! Welcome to my first post. I was looking for a country to visit that had sunny places with beaches and good food. and guess what...Italy also has beautiful tourist attractions such as the famous Colosseum in Rome which was a place for games and bloody spectacles that entertained the public, such as fights between gladiators, confrontations between animals and executions between prisoners. But the place I would most like to visit is the Tuscan Archipelago National Park in the region of Tuscany as it has 7 beautiful islands known as the 7 gems linked to a myth of the goddess Venus. I would really like to photograph the flora and fauna of the islands. To be honest I want to travel in many parts of the world so I would happily work for a few months but not live there.

See you soon or as the Italians say Ci Vediamo Presto!
